Classes & Training

For the past several years, CompuSavvy has offered both on-site training and hands-on computer lab classes throughout California.

Lab classes certainly can be beneficial. For one thing, they get staff members away from ringing phones and other work-related demands that make it hard for them to concentrate on the lessons. However, the logistics of lab classes are tricky. Over the years I have found it increasingly difficult to reach a minimum enrollment threshold that will offset the costs of renting a training room, especially in cities distant from my home base (Los Angeles). So, although I haven’t had a chance to update the CompuSavvy web site to reflect this change in emphasis, I now focus mostly on on-site training.

On-site training is very cost-effective for your firm, and it allows me to customize an agenda for small groups or individual employees. I can teach traditional classes or work with people one on one at their desks.

Moreover, we can use copies of your own documents as samples. That means that we can tailor the training to the way your staff actually works, and the class can work together to troubleshoot real-world problems that you experience on a daily basis.

If you prefer, we can arrange for remote training (a webinar) for up to five people at a time. In my opinion, on-site training is preferable — I’m able to view people’s computer screens as they work, which often leads to insights that aren’t possible via the web — but remote training also has its pluses. One advantage is that it’s somewhat less expensive than on-site training. Because I don’t fly, it’s also the only option for clients who are located farther away than a 6- to 8-hour drive from L.A..

In addition to the above options, I also offer one-on-one training sessions — at steeply discounted rates — for legal secretaries and paralegals who want to hone their Word and/or WordPerfect skills at their own expense. Typically, we do the training on weekends at a mutually convenient location. If you have a friend or co-worker who needs the same type of training, we can give both of you even better rates. This option can be very useful for people who need to master one or more advanced features of Word or WordPerfect, but who don’t have a lot of time (or money) to do so.

Please drop me a note at my business e-mail address (compusavvy AT earthlink DOT net) to inquire about on-site, remote, and/or individual training. Whichever option you prefer, I will work with you to ensure that you receive effective training at a fair price!
